Pelicans make roster moves, add Keion Brooks Jr. on two-way deal

The New Orleans Pelicans continue to shuffle their roster in hopes of finding some diamonds in the rough to bolster their injury-depleted squad. On Thursday, the team announced the signing of forward Keion Brooks Jr. to a two-way contract. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Keion Brooks Jr.: A Fresh Opportunity

Brooks, a 6-foot-7 forward, has been a standout performer for the Birmingham Squadron, New Orleans’ G League affiliate, this season. In 20 games, he’s averaged an impressive 18.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 45.0% from the floor and making 34.2% of his three-point attempts. Brooks’ scoring ability and versatility on the wing make him an intriguing addition for a Pelicans team that has struggled with depth due to injuries.

The End of Trey Jemison III’s Time in New Orleans

In a corresponding move, the Pelicans waived Trey Jemison III, a 6-foot-11 center who had been on the roster since the offseason. Jemison appeared in limited minutes for New Orleans but never quite found his footing. With the Pelicans leaning on smaller, more versatile lineups and rookie Yves Missi holding down the starting center position, Jemison became the odd man out.

Antonio Reeves Assigned to G League

Additionally, the Pelicans assigned Antonio Reeves to the Birmingham Squadron. Reeves has seen sporadic action with New Orleans this season, averaging 4.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in just 9.1 minutes per game across 17 appearances.

The assignment provides Reeves with the opportunity to get more consistent playing time and refine his game. His ability to score in bunches makes him an asset at the G League level, where he’ll have the chance to develop his decision-making and defense—both areas where he’s shown room for improvement.

What This Means for the Pelicans

The moves come at a time when the Pelicans are desperately searching for answers amid a season defined by injuries and inconsistent play. Brooks represents a low-risk, high-reward signing who could potentially carve out a role in the rotation. Meanwhile, Reeves’ assignment and Jemison’s release allow the team to reallocate resources to players who fit better into the current system or long-term plans.

With the Pelicans sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference standings, every roster decision matters. The organization continues to look for players who can step up and help salvage what has been a trying campaign.
